Bucket List Item #24

I was just looking through my existing bucket list from about a year ago, and I saw

Finish an entire season of a completed show

Well, I can tell you that boy oh boy I have done this. And in spades.

Netflix makes this so super easy that I can’t even fathon how to explain it to you. Can’t even.

It Crowd? Boom. 3 days.

Supernatural? Labor of love, dozens of tears and a freakish amount of willpower: less than a year and a half.

Gossip Girl? Too many hours to count.

I have come to the realization that because I never really watched television shows before my freshman year, I routinely binge watch shows. This is bad and I do not encourage it unless it rains for a week straight and you are more invested in watching paint dry than do a thing.

Checking off this bucket list item benefited my life in no way whatsoever. It did however allow me to indulge in watching countless hours of tv, so I guess there’s that.

Hopefully on my next bucket list look through I’ll find something more enriching than finishing a television series.

Hope everyone had a happy New Year! I know I did! :)

Bucket List Item #2

For the better part of a year I had entertained the idea of submitting my poetry to the venerable New Yorker, but I chickened out each time. Recently, I decided that I was being a lazy piece of shit, and that if I didn’t submit something, then I would punish myself by eating a lot of junk food (it makes me break out). Not wanting to deal with the consequences, I took the few, simple steps necessary, filled out a simple sheet, pressed send, and voila. It was literally very easy.

I know that the New Yorker isn’t going to look at my poetry and say, Gosh. Would you, would – hey David come look at this poetic genius we have here! We must, nay, are obligated to publish this in it’s own seperate magazine!

I mean, obviously that won’t happen. (It is fun to consider though)

In any case, I did it, and it feels great! I could be published! I don’t even care that a trillion other people also submit for the poetry slots. If I didn’t submit, I’d have a 0 out of 0 chance of getting published. But now that I have, I have a 50% chance. Either I don’t get published, or I do!!!!!!!! HOW COOL.

So now I’ve crossed off another tiny item. But also a big item. Sort of one-small-step kind of deal, and I’m weirdly proud of myself for it.

Congrats, Me, for doing something productive and also crossing another item off your bucket list!

Bucket List Item: Summer Playlist

I was recently looking at my bucket list (five mnutes ago) and I realized that there was, in fact, at least one item that I can cross off the list!

YAY!

No seriously though, because I’ve done mostly none of the things on the list.

But this, I have done. I have made my Summer 2012 Playlist!

What I am not too proud of is the fact that I finished it September 2nd, the day before I was shipping off for college again. But what I didn’t realize (or I did, I think, subconciously) is that by waiting until the three main months of summer came to a close, I was able to accurately capture what I thought my summer should sound like.

This ordeal, which was actually a lot of fun, has been subject to some ridicule. A lot of my friends have expressed severe confusion when I mentioned that I hadn’t finished my playlist yet. It’s not perfect! I’d say.

But now, in September, it is.  I don’t even care. And it is with my highest confidence that I present to you, all, my Summer 2012 Playlist. It’s perfect.

It is.

Shut up.

Sitting on the rocks in Rockport with the following soundtrack would have been IDEAL

Summer 2012

New Slang – The Shins

Fluorescent Adolescent – Arctic Monkeys

Golden Baby – Coeur de Pirate

Semi Charmed Life – Third Eye Blind

Ride with Me – Nelly

Train in Vain – The Clash

Floats my Boat – Aer

Watching you Watch Him – Eric Hutchinson

For a Fool – The Shins

Stuck on the Puzzle – Alex Turner (<—-This is  seriously a great human.)

Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Skinny Love – Birdy

Shelter – Ray LaMontagne

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door – Bob Dylan

Tada! Great, huh? Huh? It’s great!

Toodles,

Me.

My Bucket List

I’ve decided to make a bucket list. An unofficial one, I guess, but one nonetheless. So far its on sticky notes on my computer, and when I think of one, I put it up. So simple. Easy, breezy, beautiful, bucket list.

Like many, my bucket list includes a range of things I’d like to do. I don’t have a time frame yet, since I’m not sure how I’m organizing the list in it’s final form.

I have numbers like “get all A’s one semester” to “read all of Hemmingway’s works”, so you can see the scope in time needed. One I can do in a week (I’m joking. Two weeks), the other, a whole semester.

I’ll keep you posted, and maybe I’ll set up a side blog for this.

Wish me luck!
